I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing a lot of misogynistic language in there about women ‘entrapping’ men into fatherhood, or research about men being abused by women ( ignoring that while men are victims of physical and sexual abuse, it’s more often at the hands of other men than women), and yes, stating that men’s rights should trump a woman’s decision with regards to her own body and abortion or pregnancy. In any case, this is where you point out how these are not true father’s/men’s rights movements, and only true father’s rights movements believe X, and we get all cosy in our No True Scotsman tent, even though I would wager a lot more groups believe in controlling women’s bodies than you seem to think - they’ve just learned it’s not politic to come right out and say it.”
Okay, nowhere in those links did I see anything about “we need more rights to keep women from aborting our kids.” How dare men (who’ve been the perennial losers in custody cases) actually *want* to raise kids! The gall! And, yes, there are women who “entrap” men by getting pregnant just like there are idiots who convince women they’re sterile in order to impregnate the woman.
I do appreciate you telling me what my next points will be. Saves me from thinking. Just a dumb, ol’ man I am anyway, right? Except you’re wrong in the points I’ll be making. Oh, no! How can that be?
Quite honestly those sites (obviously I didn’t read every last word of every page but I gave them a pretty good looking-over) were no more misogynistic than your tone here was misandrinistic.
I could bring up many cases of men being abused my women (granted it’s usually emotional but it can be physical as well) but that would be pointed out as a vast minority.
I would still wager that any group for fathers’ rights who wants to control a woman’s body is really, at the core, mainly a Pro-Life group. The fathers’ rights groups I speak of have fathers’ rights as their primary focus. The only time I’ve seen those groups talk about abortion and such is to say that it emotionally effects those of us who actually love our kids (as does miscarriage or an unfortunate bike accident when the child is ten). But saying “Hey, men hurt and may need to talk to someone” is a far cry from saying “You can’t have an abortion because the father wants the kid.”
Basically, my point is still valid: Greg Fultz has not started an organization interested in fathers’ rights because he’s worried about what’s happening *before* birth. Fathers need more rights *after* birth.
This is probably a waste of all this typing because you can no more change the mind of a misandrist than you can do so with a misogynist but it was at least cathartic for me and I have other venues I can place it (in context even).
Oh well, if I’m being misandrist.
